Learning Objectives:
The aim of this assessment is to develop students’ understanding of the challenges facing
business operations in a realistic environment, and develop student ability to formulate
creative solutions for challenges facing a business operation.
Type: Formal Report
Task Description:
This is an individual assessment. To complete this assessment, students are required to visit
one venue of your choice from the following list:
a) Theme park (Movie World, Water World)
b) Hotel (e.g. Marriott, Club Watermark)
c) Food and beverage outlet (e.g. Hard Rock Café, Southport RSL Club)
d) Shopping Centre (e.g. Harbour Town, Robina)
You may select either the whole operation (e.g. Movie World) or a small segment of the
operations management (e.g. ticketing queue at Movie World). Appraise the service delivery
system and IDENTIFY ONE OPERATIONAL MANAGEMENT CHALLENGE
impacting quality service outcomes. Make recommendations for service quality improvement
for the identified challenge.
The draft concept ideas
(250 words) should include the following:
1. Identification of the operational management challenge
2. Identification of relevant literature
The final report (1,500 words) should include the following:
1. Executive Summary (approximately 200 words)
2. Brief description of the business and context (approx. 200 words)
3. Identification of the challenge and analysis of the stated challenge (approx. 400
words)
4. Recognition of alternative solutions to the challenge (approx. 400 words)
5. Evaluation of the likely solution to the challenge and recommendations for service
quality improvement (approx. 300 words)
