Archives are typically reflective logs prepared by students. Students are expected to observe everyday life consumption phenomena, collect them in a file throughout the semester, choose four examples within them, analyse these four examples in the light of the concepts which we have covered(please look at lecture handout), and provide their personal critical reflections. Each example should be around 500 words length and the assignment is 2000 words length in total.
The examples can be about advertisements, observations from a marketplace like shopping malls, flea markets, bazaars or second-hand shops, students’ own consumer experiences in real or virtual life, existing sub-cultures, brand communities, virtual communities, newspaper or magazine articles, consumer resistances towards particular products or brands, political consumption practices, anti-consumption practices, consumption of popular culture outputs like films, TV shows, soap operas, popular music, or books. I recommend international students to find out examples from their home countries as well and reflect on them using the lecture material.
In addition to level of analysis and critique, originality and creativity is graded as well.
