What Was Your First computer?
My first personal computer was Sony Vaio x505. It was a laptop not a desktop. Sony Vaio X505is an Intel Pentium process with 20 GB of Hard Disc, 512MB of RAM, 1MB of memory.
When did you get it? What did you do with it?
I acquired it in 2003. I used it for playing computer games, educational purposes, and communicating with friends. I used to play games a lot. I liked playing cool cars and adventure games. I often talked about computer games with friends, swap cheats and ideas. Internet games afforded me the opportunity to play with individuals from around the world. Playing computer games was not only fun but also helped me remember a lot of other things, improved my problem solving skills. Playing computer games became my popular activity. Some games were offline and others would require connecting to the internet to get them. I like those games that contained educational content and also those that allowed discussions with other peers.
In addition to playing computer games, I used the device for educational purposes. I would prepare power-point slides for classroom presentations, store class notes on the Microsoft word, and used excel to calculate some math problems. Internet access allowed me to obtain information from the internet to use for homework.
It also provides a means to communicate and interact with people. I could get connected to my friends and relatives in no time. I would not stay more than two days without having visited facebook.
Compare your first computer with your current computer
My current PC is Toshiba satellite C55 C-1wf. Sony Vaio X505 is different from Toshiba satellite c 55-c-1wf in many respects, including memory, storage and RAM. Sony Vaio X505is an Intel Pentium process with 20 GB of Hard Disc, 512MB of RAM, 1MB of memory (White, & Downs, 2007). The satellite C55C-1WF is a 5th Generation Intel with 750GB of Hard Disk and 1,600MHz of RAM. It also has reasonable battery and power life (Ceruzzi, 2012). The maximum battery life is 7h30min. Its Intel processor enables it to run for a7-hour working time. Furthermore, Satellite C55-C has fuss-free design. It has features like a DVD writer, a USB port, a power inlet to the left and HDMI and USB and one slot for inputting SDXC card to the right. For wireless communication, there is a Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.
Sony Vaio has an excellent LCD screen compared to Satellite C505. Although its screen contrast is okay, its glossy reflection produces overhead light that make reading difficult. However, the battery life of Sony Vaio is very short. Toshiba has high contrast screen. For wireless communication, Sony Vaio has features like 10/100 Ethernet and 802.11b/g.
Compare your PC with your phone assuming it is a smart phone
Both smartphones and personal computers have computing capabilities, can perform many tasks and run software. PCs, especially desktop computers are not portable, while smart phones are portable and light to carry around (Yan, 2015). The smart phone is designed for the user to carry everywhere.
While a PC can connect to phone network, they are not designed with the required equip. Laptops connect to the internet via a Wi-Fi. On the other hand, smart phone has a data plan which enables it to have internet connection at all times (Ciampa, 2014).
A PC uses the keyboard to enter data. The keyboard is familiar and easy to use. The mouse makes clicking and scrolling comfortable. By contrast, smart phones have on-screen touch, which is smaller and uncomfortable to use. The small on-screen keyboard makes typing difficulty.
Things/tasks Smart Phone can perform which Personal computer cannot do
Smart phone is greater communicator in that it spans medium, media, text, pictures and video in a manner that PC cannot. Smart phones provide direct access to means of communication and email at all times. They stand out when it comes to making voice calls (Bradley, & PCWorld, 2012).
Unlike PC, Smart phones have GPS for locating places. They can also help users to find deals when doing shopping, find restaurants, remember parking, and read movie review prior to renting.
Android smart phones have voice recognition feature meaning that they actually listen to the user. Users can use their voices to fill in some text inputs on their device, play music, search the internet and navigate (Ciampa, 2014). The smart phone is more portable and small to carry in the pocket. The smart phone is always with the user.
The PC is appropriate for performing complex tasks. Owing to its high processing power, a PC has high battery consumption. Smart phones are appropriate for performing easy tasks owing to their low processing power.
People like to multi-task with their devices from video streaming to web browsing, gaming and photo editing. PCs are good at multi-tasking than smart phones. While smart phones are yet to replace PCs, they allow quick interaction compared to PC.
