This week is packed with lots of content, but the instructions are clearly outlined for you to help you succeed. As a reminder, do not forget to review the instructor guidance as this also provides you with additional support in helping you tackle your tasks. For your discussion, you will have an opportunity to peruse through the TedEd website which is by far one of my favorites. They include great videos that get you thinking critically and as you complete your discussion, you will have an opportunity to determine how you might actually use them in your classroom to get students to think about their thinking (also known as metacognition). Then for the second part of your discussion, you will need to read the Brookhart text to make connections to the video you must watch. Again, just be sure to carefully read the instructions and take one line at a time to ensure you address all of the components.
Now, your written assignment is a Performance Task Analysis and has multiple parts that you must complete BEFORE you make any attempts at the assignment. Be sure to complete all these tasks and consider taking notes as you do to help you remember and synthesize what you have learned during each part. Also, READ the rubric and use it as a checklist to make sure that you are meeting the expectations. There is a TEMPLATE for this assignment that you can use AND an exemplar to help guide you in completing this task, but remember the exemplar should NOT be used in your own work. When completing this assignment, consider the following to guide you:
1. Be sure that all 6 CLOs (Course Learning Outcomes) are listed in the template. If you download the template provided, it will already be included.
2. When finding evidence from Smarter Balanced, you will want to find an example within the various links provided that shows alignment to each of the six CLOs. State what the evidence is, how it aligns to the CLO, and where you found it within the Smarter Balanced websites.
3. Then you reflect on how the CLO and the evidence you found from the Smarter Balanced websites has influenced your understanding of creating high quality assessments. How might you use this information when you create your own teacher made assessments. What important knowledge will you keep in mind when creating high quality assessments based on the CLO and evidence?
Please also be sure to review the GUIDED response when responding to your peers to help you work on developing substantial responses that engage your classmates in critical thought. You all are graduate students, so expectations are different than when you were an undergraduate student. Here is a link to help you understand what these different expectations include:
