The introduction chapter describes the topic choice, why you chose the topic, and what prior knowledge you had of the topic. The introduction should be 1-2 pages (250-500 words). You should have a thesis statement summarizing the topics that are going to be studied in the paper. The topic-chapter should be 3-4 pages (750-1000 words) of typewritten paragraphs (hence, if you add an illustration or drawing, then that space should be extended for the writing part). Place a title at the top of the page where the chapter begins. It is highly recommended that you include a picture or illustration at appropriate places in the chapters. Make sure each picture or illustration is properly labeled (e.g. “Figure 1.2 Title” where 1 is the chapter and 2 is the numerical order number of that figure within the chapter. One short quotation from a source may be used in each summary, properly marked with quotation marks, and properly noted using the citation style from your major. Excessive quotations from sources will result in a reduced grade. The chapter need to focus on the science rather than other information such as biographical information. Any discussion about the science has to include relevance to modern society, i.e. why is this work important. References need to be listed throughout each topic chapter in a manner consistent with your major. A bibliography with five sources needs to be at the end of each topic chapter. The conclusion chapter summarizes what you learned about the topic and what you learned about science in general. You must have at least five references. The paper may include up to three internet sites (While Wikipedia is convenient and informative; it is NOT the best internet site for information on these topics.) The paper must include at least two other sources that are not internet sources.
