Modernists made a huge contribution to the genre of short history in terms of their subject and methods of writing. Earnest Hemingway, Franz Kafka, Virginia Woolf and Catherine Mansfield come to the top of those modernist writers, as their stories have introduced new themes and different styles of Gothic voices that dominated the genre in the 19th century. Choose two of these authors, provided that you have a man and a woman writer, and write an essay on a short story (or two) written by each. Your analysis should focus on the elements of modernism in their work, the reason for choosing these stories in particular, writing techniques, themes, characters, etc. Your essay should also include a comparison of the two authors you selected, and how you think that the gender has formed their works and made them different.
