Female Genital Mutilation is also referred to as the circumcision of women. It is a problem that has continued to affected many parts of Kenya. Although there are some communities and tribes that are known to practice FGM openly, the problem has persisted because of the communities that have continued to engage in the practice secretly. It is a problem that the government of Kenya has continued to establish legislative measures in a bid to cub the prevalence of FGM in the country. FGM is strongly condemned because it inflicts physical and psychological harm on the girls that are taken through the practice. The practice ha also been associated with other social and health problems such as early marriages, school dropouts, and spread of HIV/AIDS (Livermore, Monteiro & Rymer, 2007).
