The education policy options brief will consist of the following component sections:
A 1-2 page executive summary, addressed to an individual or collective policy decision-maker, that briefly summarizes the policy problem, briefly summarizes the facts that are important for policy decision-makers to know, and bullet points your recommendations. A 2-5 page introduction that provides a background to the problem, its nature, the policy goal (i.e. a decision that solves or reduces the problem), who are the key participants and how they frame the issues, other important perspectives on this problem, and the important political, economic, historical, or other contextual factors that will likely influence the organization response to the problem. A 5-8 page policy analysis that analyzes the policy problem and presents policy options. Be sure to include recommendations for a decision-making model that effectively enable the client to constructively resolve or manage the problem. 5-10 page description of specific recommendation(s). Each recommendation should be accompanied by a rationale citing probable advantages and disadvantages if the recommendation is to be implemented. A list of references cited in the options brief.
