Instructions for completing the second interactive interview exercises When conducting an interview in a Human Services setting, potential clients will normally complete an application or a referral for review. Based on the information provided in the application/referral, you will begin to develop a sense of the initial interview questions you would like to ask the client. These initial questions may be clarifying questions, where your goal is to review with the client information they provided, or to better understand the issues or concerns of the client. The objective of this assignment is similar to the assignment already completed in Module 4: you are to develop a set of ten (10) questions you would ask the client at the first face-to-face meeting. This assignment will require you to work in 3-5 person teams. Teams will be assigned by me. The assignment is designed to simulate an actual face-to-face interview between the students and a client. I will play the role of the client. Scenario: You are an employee for the County Department of Public Social Services. Your position as an Eligibility Worker with the Temporary Assistance to Needy Families (TANF) program requires you to accept applications for assistance. Part of the eligibility determination system requires Eligibility Workers to interview potential recipients to review their application for assistance and determine their eligibility to receive benefits. Susan has submitted an application for your review. The client is in serious financial distress and is about to lose her home. She needs help getting care for her three small children so she can continue working. Every time a child is ill, she has to take time off of work. Now she is in jeopardy of losing her job, which also provides medical insurance. Susan is seeking whatever assistance is available. On her application Susan has stated she is 26 years old and her children are 4, 5 and 7 years old. Her husband has not lived with the family for over 2 years and she does not know where he is.
