Due 11/3 by 11:55 pm Student Replies Student 1 great post for this week’s forum. I have to agree with you on pretty much all of your post this week. When it comes to age, gender and just basic genetics there really isn’t much we can do about that. I will say however, that I think Americans tend to use age as a crutch when it comes to getting enough exercise these days. There is quite a bit of difference in a 60 year old who exercises daily vices a 60 year old who does not exercise very much. It is my belief that the older adults need to add resistance training to their exercise program even more than younger people. According to a recent research article by Bickle, Cross and Bamman, older adults required a higher dose of weekly resistance training than younger adults in order to maintain myofiber hypertrophy attained during a progressive resistance training program. All to often I see older people being too scared to go into the resistance area of my fitness center. I try to advertise to everyone that I am available to help if needed. This is one of the main focuses I am trying to hit in my program right now. Great post this week Student 2 You did a great job with this week’s forum post. Proper nutrition and physical activity are definitely important when a person wants to lose weight and to keep it off. It is definitely a challenge for those who lack the motivation to get into an exercise routine especially when a person is starting off for the first time. The determinants of severe obesity are associated with the lifestyle, environmental familial and societal risk factors for being overweight or obese. Obesity continues to rise in the United States. Excess body fat is unhealthy and is a risk for developing certain diseases such as heart disease, diabetes, hypertension, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, and high levels of blood sugar. What causes obesity? There are several factors that may play into obesity such as genetics, metabolic factors, socioeconomic factors and lifestyle choices. Everyone has different metabolic and hormonal factors and these play a significant role in not only triggering hunger but also feeling full. Those who are overweight and fitting into the category of being obese are more than likely to have a heart disease. Coronary artery disease is also more widespread because fatty deposits build up in the arteries that supply the heart. Reduced blood flow to the heart can cause a heart attack. The blood clots can also cause a stroke. Due to the additional weight, it raises the heart rate reduces the capability to move blood through the vessels. Again great job on this week’s post.
