Now that you have experienced a realistic design process in an academic collaborative setting, you should be able to identify many opportunities for improvement in the processes, the supported tools or underlying concepts. Select one of these opportunities that you think is most interesting to you. Do not select IFC models, BIM Server, Relatics, or Solibri as a topic because that is much too broad and will lack sufficient depth. Instead focus on one connection between these methods/techniques. Describe the problems, use the project data as an example and provide a solution to overcome this problem. Look for other researchers that identified the same problem and do a quick literature review on this topic using the digital library including the journals (Automation in Construction, ITCon, ADVEI, AIEDAM, CAD etc.) available through the TU/e library gateway. Describe which innovation(s) you deem necessary to improve collaborative design. Provide an innovative concept and how this can be supported by ICT.
Assignment: Collaborative design full paper
• _Writing a scientific paper
• _Reflection on strengths and weaknesses of Collaborative Design methods and techniques
• _Developing a new Collaborative Design concept with ICT support
Today, a design project is always a collaborative effort, because many different disciplines are needed to fulfill the societal demands. However, many projects fail due to poor management, resulting in budget and time overrun. Practitioners and academics are continuously looking for new opportunities to improve collaborative design processes. In this task you are challenged to contribute to this field of knowledge.
Through the TU/e library many books, journal and conference papers on this topic are available. Most importantly, you use the Process report for this project that you have written with your Consortium and your own experience from the project as input for the paper.
Obviously you incorporate the comments that you received on your extended abstract. Also re-read the extended abstract assignment for tips that also apply to the full paper.
The TU/s Skills lab (https://skillslab.tue.nl/) provides many instruction on writing academic publication. You are encourage in the course to make use of these resources. For this assignment the following instruction was used:
In this assignment you will develop your extended abstract into a full paper. A journal paper often follows the following structure:
As you can see, now the full paper starts with an abstract, but this will be much shorter than your extended abstract. You write this abstract only after you completed the rest of your paper.
