Research in Criminal Justice seeks to give you experience in the formulation of a research question and the designing of an appropriate research proposal to study a Criminal Justice problem. In this assignment, you will write a research problem and construct or design a research proposal up to (but not including) the point of making observations, data gathering, and completing research. The research proposal may study any criminal justice-related issue. The proposal should be approximately 2500-3000 words and address the prompts below, using concepts you learned from the course and additional research to support it. Project Prompts Once you’ve researched a current criminal justice topic of your choice: • Identify a research question arising from a gap in the existing literature on the topic you have researched; • Explain the importance of the question you are seeking to research; • Write a literature review (a review of peer-reviewed articles pertaining to your topic); • State the research question(s) and hypotheses to be addressed in the proposed study; • Identify and explain the dependent and independent variables of the proposed study; • Propose and justify a research method for the proposed study; • Explain sampling and/or data collection techniques for the proposed study; • Identify any risks to human subjects that may be incident to the proposed study and propose strategies for minimizing harm; • Evaluate strengths and weaknesses of the proposed research study. Formatting & Sources Please write your paper in the APA format. As part of your research, you may refer to the course material for supporting evidence, but you must also use at least four credible, outside sources and cite them using APA format as well. Please include a mix of both primary and secondary sources, with at least one source from a scholarly peer-reviewed journal. If you use any Study.com lessons as sources, please also cite them in APA (including the lesson title and instructor’s name). • Primary sources are first-hand accounts such as interviews, advertisements, speeches, company documents, statements, and press releases published by the company in question. • Secondary sources come from peer-reviewed scholarly journals, such as the Journal of Management. You may use like JSTOR, Google Scholar, and Social Science Research Network to find articles from these journals. Secondary sources may also come from reputable websites with .gov, .edu, or .org in the domain. (Wikipedia is not a reputable source, though the sources listed in Wikipedia articles may be acceptable.)
