In this chapter the author gives us great information on the strategies to make sure the attention of the students is focused. As we study this chapter the author gives us strategies to motivate students. The author mentions this about ways to motivate students: “Tell students the purpose, rationale, importance, and application of the lesson or activity objective”. For the students to be able to understand concepts having some direction will keep them focused on the task at hand. This concept also helps the instructor in preparation to make sure the lessons is clearly laid out for the students. The author goes through many more tactics such as focus on a question, provide initial examples etc. The author also tells us that we should state the objective. “One of the most effective strategies to use in the opening of a lesson or activity is to tell students directly what they will learn and why. When students under-stand what to learn, how to demonstrate their learning, and why the learning is valuable, they become empowered and self-regulated learners. “Regardless of how important the content, how engaging the activity, how formative the assessment or how differentiated the instruction, unless all students see, recognize, and understand the learning target from the very beginning of the lesson, one factor will remain constant: The teacher will always be the only one providing the direction, focusing on getting students to meet the instructional objectives. “(Price, Nelson).
The Growth of the student is what we are concerned with most. To do so we must learn to ask questions. The text mentions that questions provide a role in helping the teacher review so students can understand the material. personally, I love to ask to follow up questions to make sure the concept was attained.
This process of growth strategies is a wonderful! This does take some time to implement but when teachers and students can focus and ask the right questions, we can do great things in the classroom.
