In Latino cultures, greater emphasis on having strong family ties and respecting roles of all family members, particularly adults. Parental styles vary not only across cultures but also within cultures, depending on  parents socioeconomic status. Within the United States, parents of lower economic status tend to be more controlling and more punitive than parents of higher socioeconomic status. Because of their limited financial resources, these parents often lead more stressful lives, so these parents of lower socioeconomic status may be too stressed to invest the energy needed for the warmth and moderate control that define authoritative parenting.
